Bryan and I ran our own small homestead in Iowa and in Texas. Our endeavors were for personal home consumption. We had large vegetable gardens including sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, green beans, winter squash, etc. We also raised Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks and Easter Eggers for our laying chickens. We have raised Cornish Cross chickens as meat birds using the chicken-tractor method. These birds were processed entirely at home with just the two of us. We raised a few steers while on our larger property in Texas. Rate is selected as a 2 times per day arrangement.
